Our Standards

At The Ripe Avocado, exceptional hospitality and genuine responsibility sit side by side. Our standards for how we source, how we treat our people, and how we conduct ourselves have shaped this business since its earliest days.

Independent Verification

To ensure our commitments are credible, we work with sustainability consultancy Bold Green Strategies. Their team provides independent oversight of our environmental and social performance, supports our carbon measurement using the Harker™ CO2e methodology, and helps us prepare our annual reporting with the rigour that independent verification brings.

Ethics & Transparency

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Ripe Avocado is proudly Black-owned and LGBTQ+-led. That identity has shaped this business from day one. We hold accredited Living Wage Employer status, paying the London Living Wage as a minimum to every member of our team, from core staff to event freelancers. We welcome people of all backgrounds and identities to work and collaborate with us.

Human Rights & Modern Slavery

Human rights are central to how we operate. We follow the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the International Labour Organization's core standards, and we hold a zero-tolerance position on modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking, both in our own business and across our supply chain. Every supplier we work with, from growers to venue partners to staffing agencies, is expected to meet the same standards we hold ourselves to.

Responsible Sourcing

We weigh environmental, social and animal welfare impact alongside quality in every procurement decision. Our beef, pork and lamb come from Red Tractor Assured farms. Our chicken is free-range, and our eggs are free-range and Lion-stamped. Our dairy is Red Tractor Assured or free-range, and around 40% of the milk we serve is plant-based. Our fish is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), and our fresh produce prioritises British and seasonal growing.

We ask every supplier whether they pay the London Living Wage and which sustainability accreditations they hold, and we record their answers in a supplier register maintained by our Executive Chef.

Our Environmental & Sustainability Policy sets out how we manage our impact across our kitchen, our events and our supply chain.

Governance & Oversight

As an owner-led business, oversight of our purpose and our social and environmental performance sits directly with our founder, who reviews progress against our targets each year, drawing on input from the team and our supplier partners. This oversight is reinforced by our independently certified ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) systems, which bring external audit discipline to how we run the business. We are accountable to our staff, our clients and our wider community for the standards we hold.

Responsible Marketing

We communicate honestly about our impact. Every claim we make about sustainability, sourcing or performance is backed by evidence, and our Ethical Marketing Policy sets out how we do this in line with the Competition and Markets Authority's Green Claims Code.

Political Engagement

The Ripe Avocado does not engage in political lobbying, and we make no financial or in-kind contributions to political parties, candidates or political action committees.

Responsible Tax

We believe tax should be paid where value is created, and we do not use aggressive tax avoidance schemes. We rely only on standard statutory reliefs available to a UK business of our size, and we pay what we owe in full and on time.

Raising a Concern

We hold ourselves to a high standard of safety and ethical conduct, and we want to hear from anyone who feels we have fallen short. Members of staff, freelancers, suppliers, clients and members of the public can raise a concern about unsafe practice, ethical breaches, misconduct or any failure to meet the standards on this page by contacting events@theripeavocado.co.uk. Every report is treated in strict confidence, logged, investigated promptly, and handled without fear of retaliation. We acknowledge concerns within two working days and respond in full within fourteen.

Where escalating within the business would not be appropriate, or where you would prefer to raise a concern externally, you can contact ACAS (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service), a free and independent public body, at acas.org.uk or 0300 123 1100.
