The Ripe Avocado Marks One Year of Bold Flavour, Vibrant Heritage and Ethical Events

Founded by our Director Jay Burgesson-Carter, The Ripe Avocado delivered its first event just one year ago. From day one, we’ve been a luxury London caterer creating bespoke, socially responsible events that blend bold flavours with thoughtful hospitality.

“We set out to do things differently,” says Jay. “To show that luxury can be inclusive, that heritage can be vibrant and contemporary, and that values can sit at the centre of a high-end experience. That’s still our focus, from plan to plate.”

Highlights from Year One
Jay’s top three highlights from our first year of trading reflect the variety, ambition and energy that have defined The Ripe Avocado since day one:

  • A country house-style wedding in the heart of London at the Orangery in Holland Park, delivered in collaboration with G.O.A.T Live Events

  • The Hammersmith and Fulham Community Sports Awards at the Sands End Arts and Community Centre, produced in partnership with Evolve Events

  • A reception at the British Museum to celebrate the work of artist Hew Locke

From there, momentum only grew. We’ve since catered a wide range of events, including:

  • An 80s-themed, four-day immersive retreat in the Cotswolds for the launch of Rivals on Disney+

  • The AIM Awards, serving 850 guests in partnership with Ford Sinclair Events

  • A Bridgerton-themed Christmas party at the British Museum for 750 guests

  • A dinner for Disney on London’s largest stage at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane

  • A Marvel Studios premiere, where bold flavour met theatrical flair

  • The 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, supporting Freeman’s Event Partners with the Moët & Chandon and Whispering Angel bars for over half a million motorsport fans

Growing with Purpose
We began with a core team of two: Jay and Executive Chef Sam Baeza, we then grew to three adding our Senior Sales and Events Planner Lucy Robinson. They were soon joined by Events Coordinator Chelsea Williams-Grant and Operations Manager Will Gubby, forming the foundation of Team Avocado.

Our venue portfolio has expanded just as quickly. From early listings at the British Museum and Kent House, we are now accredited at 15 iconic London venues including Royal Museums Greenwich, Two Temple Place, the London Transport Museum and Protein Studios.

A Business Built on Values
The Ripe Avocado was founded to represent the underrepresented. We believe the hospitality industry should be inclusive, ethical and culturally rich, and we’re committed to driving meaningful change across  the sector.

One of our proudest partnerships is with Stonewall Housing, a cause close to Jay’s heart. We’re contributing not only financially, but also by sharing our time, knowledge and expertise to support their work in practical and impactful ways.

Lessons from Year One
If this first year has taught us anything, it’s whatever plan you had in your head it will be far bigger, quicker and demanding. We’ve had to really slow down, taking the time to find our feet, refine our offering and earn trust within the industry has allowed us to grow with purpose and stay true to our values. Every event has been a lesson in creativity, collaboration and focus and we’re proud of how far we’ve come.

What’s Next
To round off our first year of trading, being shortlisted for Caterer of the Year at the London Venue & Catering Awards is a huge honour and a brilliant milestone for Team Avocado.

Looking ahead, we’re excited for what’s to come. More standout events, more happy clients, and more opportunities to champion bold flavour, vibrant heritage and ethical hospitality.

“No one can truly prepare you for the adventure. However you think it will go, it goes the other way. It’s all-consuming, unpredictable, and at times overwhelming, but also the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done,” says Jay. “As we grow, we’ll keep pushing for a more inclusive and representative industry. And we’ll keep doing things properly. With care, with purpose, and with pride in everything we serve.”
